CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting in Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, and Port St. Lucie

If you’ve been dieting and exercising for what seems like forever and you still can’t get rid of those stubborn fat bulges, a solution is now available. At Lickstein Plastic Surgery, we offer CoolSculpting Elite as an effective and nonsurgical alternative to liposuction or abdominoplasty to patients in Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, Port St. Lucie, and nearby communities. The treatment requires no anesthesia, sedation or incisions and you will immediately be able to return to work and even resume your fitness routine as soon as the procedure is over. CoolSculpting uses an innovative technology known as cryolipolysis to freeze and destroy fat cells so that they can be eliminated by the body’s natural processes. As the fat cells are removed, you see your body contour grow leaner and shapelier over time. Because the fat cells are destroyed and eliminated, the results you achieve with CoolSculpting are long-lasting as long as you maintain a healthy weight after treatment.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting Elite is an FDA-approved office procedure that can be used to slim and sculpt different areas of the body. Clinical studies have shown the average fat reduction after a single CoolSculpting treatment to be about 23 percent. The device targets fat cells to destroy them while leaving surrounding skin and tissue unharmed. The ability to focus on the treatment area allows for a relatively comfortable procedure without the need for downtime afterward. Since multiple treatments can be performed, patients can tailor their treatment plan to meet their individual aesthetic goals.

Other procedures, like lasers and tummy tucks, can be invasive and destroy the surrounding tissue as fat is extracted. CoolSculpting is the most efficient way to target fat cells since other procedures can cause collateral damage and diet and exercise are incapable of pinpointing those areas that need the most improvement.1

How Does CoolSculpting Work?

Coolsculpting uses non-invasive cooling technology known as cryolipolysis. The procedure is based on the discovery by scientists that fat cells freeze at a higher temperature than other cells in the body. When targeted cooling is applied to the treatment area, the colder temperatures destroy the fat cells while leaving other cells intact. The treated fat begins the process of dying – creating a localized inflammatory response that allows your body to naturally eliminate and dispose of the dead fat cells in the weeks and months that follow your procedure.2

How is CoolSculpting Elite Different From Traditional CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting Elite is the most advanced version of CoolSculpting, and it is the only fat reduction system cleared by the FDA to remove fat on nine different areas of the body. Unlike traditional CoolSculpting, CoolSculpting Elite employs dual applicators. This makes it possible to treat double the surface area and target areas that were previously hard-to-reach. The CoolSculpting Elite applicators are also larger, with an 18% greater surface area, so more fat can be removed in less time than with traditional CoolSculpting.3

Benefits of Coolsculpting

Since CoolSculpting requires no anesthesia, sedation or incisions, it has become a requested procedure by men and women alike. Some of the benefits this treatment offers include:

  • Quick process can be performed in about a half hour
  • Virtually painless; patients can read, answer emails or nap during treatment
  • Destroyed fat cells are flushed out of the body for long-lasting results
  • No downtime; you can return to your daily life with no visible sign you just had a procedure performed
  • Multiple treatment areas allow you to sculpt nearly any area of the body

While there are numerous advantages to undergoing CoolSculpting, it is not the right procedure for everyone. Our doctors will assess your situation, your body contouring concerns, and your desired results to determine whether CoolSculpting will offer you the outcome you want. If CoolSculpting will not meet your needs sufficiently, we have many other surgical procedures and nonsurgical treatments to help you reach all your body contouring goals. Those seeking a more dramatic change may still benefit from traditional liposuction or a combination of treatments.

CoolSculpting Elite: What to Expect

Preparing for CoolSculpting

Before you undergo your CoolSculpting treatment, you will have a consultation with Dr. Lickstein to discuss your concerns and goals for your procedure. Our cosmetic surgeons will perform a medical examination to ensure CoolSculpting will be safe and effective for you. This will be an opportune time to ask your plastic surgeon questions about the fat reduction treatment, as well as the experience of your doctor and his staff in performing the procedure. We will strive to provide you with all the information necessary to ensure you are comfortable and confident with your upcoming treatment session.

The CoolSculpting Procedure

CoolSculpting treatments take about 30 minutes to complete each area, thanks to advanced technology offered at Lickstein Plastic Surgery that cuts treatment time in half. No anesthesia is needed, which means you will be alert and able to drive yourself home after your procedure. Once you are in a comfortable position, the device will be placed in the treatment area to deliver the concentrated cooling directly to the fat cells you want eliminated. You will feel a very cold sensation as the treatment begins, but your body will quickly adjust, and the procedure should be relatively comfortable. Once your treatment is completed, you will be able to leave our office immediately.

Recovery After CoolSculpting Elite

There is little discomfort after a CoolSculpting session. You may notice the skin in the treatment area is slightly red and may feel tighter than normal. These side effects are typically mild and subside in the hours following treatment. You may experience some soreness in the treatment area during recovery time as well, which should also improve within the first day or two. These symptoms should not be severe enough to keep you from all your regular activities, including your workout if you choose.

CoolSculpting Elite Results

You won’t see results from your CoolSculpting procedure right away since it will take time for the body to flush out the treated fat cells. In the weeks following, you will begin to notice the treatment area becomes slimmer as the process goes on. Most patients will see significant results after about three months, while the body might continue to eliminate treated cells for up to six months. While you will see a noticeable fat reduction after a single session, many patients choose to have a number of treatments to achieve their optimal results.

Since fat is eliminated during this body contouring treatment, you can be confident that your results will be quite durable. However, if you gain a significant amount of weight after your procedure, remaining fat cells in the treatment area or other areas may expand, altering your positive results. You can schedule another treatment session to address changes, but we recommend adhering to a healthy lifestyle after your CoolSculpting procedure so that your new body contour remains intact over the long term.

Who is a good candidate for CoolSculpting Elite?

  • Within 20-35 pounds from his or her target weight and not suffering from obesity
  • In good health
  • Troubled by at least one inch of “pinchable” fat

Stomach fat that is firm to the touch, called visceral fat, is not suitable for treatment with CoolSculpting.4

How is CoolSculpting different from liposuction?

Liposuction is also a popular procedure for fat reduction. It is a surgical procedure that is performed under local or general anesthesia, during which a cannula is inserted through a small incision to remove unwanted fat. CoolSculpting, on the other hand, is a noninvasive procedure that requires no downtime. CoolSculpting carries fewer risks than liposuction and can reduce unwanted fat on treated areas by up to 25%.

During your consultation with Dr. Lickstein, he will go over the merits of both liposuction and CoolSculpting for your particular goals.
